Playoff Win Percentages Of Teams Playing In The NBA Finals

The full visualization can be seen here

With the NBA Finals starting this Tuesday, I thought it would be interesting to share this visualization. The above screenshot shows a portion of a visualization that shows every team that played in the NBA finals since 1984. Each team is represented by a bar that is either blue if they won the finals or red if they lost. The length of the bar represents the team's win percentage during the playoffs. When a bar is moused-over, the exact win/loss record can be seen. It's interesting to see that most of the bars at the top (representing high win percentages) are blue but then the colors start to mix towards the bottom. It isn't surprising that most of the top bars are blue, but it was interesting to see that the team with the lowest win/loss record (2008 Celtics) had actually won their championship series. I like how the bar graphs shows an overall broad view of which teams are more likely to win the series as well as allowing the user to mouse-over specific teams to get more detailed information. My only complaint is that the bar graph is displayed in a tiny window and the user is forced to scroll side to side in order to see everything.
