Facebook Interactions

Source: http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=37403547074

The visualization above shows Facebook actions and interactions. When seeing a Facebook action, such as joining a group, a light will appear on the Earth. To show interactions, a light from one dot connects to another. A different color is used for each type of action such as a wall post, a poke, and so on. You can also filter to see just one type of action such as just wall posts. It also allows you to see instead of dots, icons. This visualization allows users to see how often and how many people use Facebook on a regular basis. It shows various information such as what kind of actions are done most often and how many people are doing them and from what countries most of the actions are occurring. It is animated and gives the user more information than a static visualization would. The dynamics of this visualization does not induce the viewer to think of the methodology much, but more on the substance. It induces them to see all the data that is being shown. It allows them to view how many actions are going on and in what parts around the globe for instance.
